No plans to remove restrictions on women, says MoPVPE

KABUL (SW) – In continuation of accountability of the government to the nation, the officials of the Ministry of Promoting the Virtues and Prohibiting the Evil on Monday presented the work report of this ministry for the past one year.

Actions of the MoPVPE has always provoked reactions at home and abroad. This ministry has imposed various restrictions on Afghan women in the past one year, and this was the reason why it made headlines from time to time.

Preventing women from going to the park and sports clubs and closing thousands of beauty salons are the decisions of the Ministry of Promoting the Virtues and Prohibiting the Evil that caused the most reactions in the past year.

In the past one year, at least 11,785 complaints have been registered with this ministry, Mohammad Sadiq Akif Mohajer, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Law and Order, said. “10,785 complaints have been received from the center and provinces, of which 7,915 complaints have been investigated and 1,669 complaints are under investigation and evaluation,” he saiod.

According to him, this ministry has identified 570 under-age workers in government agencies for the past one year and after investigations, they have introduced them to religious madrassas. Officials of the Ministry of Promoting the Virtues and Prohibiting the Evil insist that the restrictions imposed on women’s participation and activity in the society are still in place and they have no plan to remove them.
