Flood affected families still waiting for aid

KABUL (SW) – Thousands of families affected by the recent natural disasters in the country say that their houses and crops have been destroyed and they have not received any help from the government or aid agencies.

A tribal leader of Kapisa, Abdul Qadir, told Salam Watandar that due to the recent rains and floods in this province, around 100 residential houses were completely destroyed and some others were also damaged. According to him, although the local authorities of this province have promised him help, but he has not received help yet.

He said: “Agricultural lands have been destroyed and water has entered houses. We want the Islamic Emirate to help us urgently.”

Qudratullah, a resident of Azra district of Logar, said that the floods that during the last few days have caused heavy financial losses to the people. He said: “Floods in Azra district have destroyed agricultural lands and we want aid organizations to provide a lot of assistance to farmers and gardeners.”

In Mida Wardak, tribal leader Shukrullah said that in the last few days, floods have destroyed residential houses and people have become homeless due to natural disasters. He said: “Floods in Chak, Daymirdad, Saidabad, Sarkh and Center Maidan Shaar have caused heavy financial losses to the people, including financial and personal losses, and people’s houses have also been destroyed and they need help.”

On the other hand, officials of the Ministry of Natural Disasters Management said that seven people died and nine others were injured due to natural disasters in the country during the last four days. The spokesman of the ministry, Shafiullah Rahimi, told Salam Watandar that the recent floods have completely and partially destroyed 300 houses in different provinces of the country. He said: “In matters of natural disasters, the Ministry has instructed the governors of all provinces to help those who have been damaged by the recent floods.”

It is worth noting that before this, the Ministry of State has requested international aid organizations to cooperate to help those affected by natural disasters.
