KABUL (SW) – The disinfection campaign to prevent the spread of “Congo fever” has started in Kabul.

Congo hemorrhagic fever is a viral and fatal disease that is transmitted to humans through animals or through contact or eating its meat.

Sadr Azam Osmani, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, has said that in order to prevent the spread of Congo fever, the government has started a campaign to disinfect animals in animal markets in Kabul, which will continue till Eid-ull-Adha.

He added: “When animals get this disease the trade of animal products gets decreased and citizens’ travel will also be limited.”

Doctors say that severe fever, headache, muscle pain, neck stiffness, back pain, red eyes, depression and anger are the main symptoms of Congo fever.

Seyed Abul-Hossein, a doctor in the department of animal health of the Ministry of Agriculture, said that in order to prevent Congo fever, health measures must be taken seriously.

He aadded hat owners should not touch animals without gloves or in sleeveless clothes. In order to keep the capital city clean and prevent the spread of Congo disease, Kabul Municipality has designated specific places for buying and selling animals in different areas for Eid-ul-Adha.
