KABUL (SW) – A local trade fair to promote domestic handicrafts has been set up by the Afghanistan Trade and Industry Union in the Timur Shahi Garden, Kabul.

Nisar Ahmad Behboodi, head of the Afghanistan Trade and Industry Union, said on the occasion that this market has been established to sell domestic products at a low price. “The purpose of creating a cheap market is that people can buy their necessary materials for the days of Eid.”

Meanwhile, officials of Kabul municipality, welcoming the opening of the fair, said that the establishment of such markets in different areas of the capital will cause the price of goods to decrease. Wali Gul Javad, head of cultural affairs at the Kabul Municipality, said: “Kabul Municipality is trying to prevent shopkeepers from selling their goods at high prices during Eid. But unfortunately, the shopkeepers continue to sell at higher prices. Holding such markets in different areas of the capital will reduce the prices.”

On the other hand, a number of traders at the trade fair said that the creation of such markets will make their goods sell easily and quickly. Mujib Sahar, one of the sellers in this market, said: “In this market, domestic products are sold with discounts of 10, 20 and 30 percent, and participating in this market makes our products sell better.”

The presence of women in this market was noticeable.

Khadijah Nouri, who brought her handmade products for sale in this market, said that permanent markets should be built for women’s produce. “We have brought women’s clothes with graph embroidery and cream embroidery, pickles and dry fruits here for sale with high quality and cheap prices.”

Likewise, a number of visitors said that by holding such markets, they can buy the materials they need for Eid days at a lower price.

According to the information provided by the Afghanistan Trade and Industry Union, there are 300 stalls for the sale of domestic products in this market, of which more than 100 stalls are dedicated to women.
