56 Afghans freed from prisons in Karachi, Pakistan

MONITORING (SW) – Officials of the Afghan Consulate in Karachi, Sindh Province, Pakistan, say that 56 Afghan prisoners, including children, have been released from various prisons in the province and have been sent back to Afghanistan.

The Afghan consul general in Karachi, Syed Abdul Jabbar, released a video on his Twitter page shared by the deputy spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zia Ahmad Takal, announcing the release of these Afghans.

Syed Abdul Jabbar also says in this video that 2,220 Afghans have been released from different prisons in Pakistan before and have been sent back to Afghanistan.

On the other hand, a number of Pakistani media have also reported that hundreds of Afghans have been released from various prisons in Karachi.

According to the Afghan consul Syed Abdul Jabbar, at least 24 children were included among the 56 people who were released, who were earlier arrested by the police for not having legal documents.

According to Pakistani media reports, 331 Afghans are currently imprisoned in the prisons of Karachi and efforts are being made to release them.
