GHOR (SW) – The suspension of food aid has made life difficult for Ghor residents, Salam Watandar has learnt.

Ghulam Hazrat, who is 36 years old and lives in a suburb of Ferozkoh city, the center of Ghor, said that in the past few months, he has survived the days and nights with the aid of the food aid, but now with the cessation of these aids, he is unable to find a single meal.

“Our life is in very bad state, we don’t have food, the aid organization did not help us during this period. We have no food, no fuel, nothing else. We are eight people, there is no business, we are worried about our situation”.”

Ghulam Hazrat is not alone facing this situation.

Habibul Rahman Wahdat is a member of a charity foundation in Ghor. He said that the number of poor families in this province has increased with the stoppage of the food aid.

According to him, the aid institutions have stopped their activities and if Afghan businessmen do not help them, most of them will lose their lives.

The World Food Program, which used to provide some assistance to the people, has stopped its activities in Ghor.

A source in this agency, on the condition of anonymity, told Salam Watandar that the aid by the WFP in Ghor was in the hands of the local authorities and they often did not deliver it to the needy.

However, Ghor governor’s spokesman Abdul Wahid Hamas did not accept this claim and said: “There was no coercion or force in this regard. Unfortunately, there were false reports. When the UN representative came, it was clear to them that the government did not do this and the officials were not involved. The talks that took place between the representative of the United Nations and the governor reached an agreement that the said report was incorrect and the aid will restart.”

It should be noted that the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in its report that about 28 million people in Afghanistan are in need of basic humanitarian assistance.
