KABUL (SW) – On the eve of the Ashura ceremony, a number of Shi’ite community members Kabul said they are worried about the security of their mourning ceremony.
The insecurity and instability in the country has caused Shiite citizens to have a low presence in Hosseiniyehs and mosques, unlike in previous years.
Officials of this event in Kabul told Salaam Watandar that they are facing more security challenges this year than in previous years. According to them, the Islamic Emirate cannot ensure the security of Hussainiyyas and mosques on the day of Ashura due to lack of familiarity with the local people.
Mohammad Ehsani, one of the officials of the Ashura ceremony in the west of Kabul, told Salam Watandar: “Unfortunately, compared to previous years, this year we are facing more security challenges.”
Ali Agha Atai, another person in charge of the Ashura ceremony in the west of Kabul, also says: “100% of us all – the parents who are worried, do not send their children to the mosque. We see that this year the number of mourners is relatively less. Because the respected families do not believe in the Islamic Emirate can distinguish between friends and enemies.”
Mohammad Ali, one of the mourners, says: “Security is not good compared to previous years. Last year was good, this year the security has not been taken properly.”
As a result of an explosion in Sarkariz area, 8 people were killed and 18 were injured from the sixth security zone of Kabul city on Saturday. Unconfirmed reports indicate that more than 50 people were killed and injured in this explosion.
The Khorasan branch of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for this explosion.
