Counter-narcotics official sacked under suspicious circumstances

BAMYAN (SW) – The head of counter-narcotics body in Bamyan province has been sacked under suspicious circumstances.

Local sources in Bamyan told Salam Watandar that Qari Abdul Fattah, the province’s director of counter-narcotics, was arrested last week by Bamyan governor Abdullah Sarhadi’s bodyguards and later fired from his post.

Abdul Sabur Farzan Sighani, spokesman for the governor of Bamyan, confirmed the news, saying that Abdul Fattah had been arrested and dismissed on charges of ‘misconduct’.

Meanwhile, a source in Bamyan, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Salam Watandar that Qari Abdul Fattah, the province’s director of counter-narcotics, had been arrested and fired last week for selling heroin.

According to the source, the head of Bamyan Anti-Narcotics Department himself sold the heroin he had confiscated from drug dealers. The source added that Abdul Fattah is a close associate of Siddiqullah Shahin Mosafer, the Bamyan police chief.

Bamyan police spokesman Mohammad Khawani Rasa also confirmed the removal of Qari Abdul Fattah from the province’s anti-narcotics department, but said reports of his arrest for selling heroin were rumored.

Local officials in Bamyan added that Qari Abdul Fattah had been replaced by Mohammad Daud Haidar, the province’s new director of counter-narcotics.

Local sources say that Mohammad Daud Haidar, the new head of Bamyan Anti-Narcotics, is from Kandahar province and is close to Abdullah Sarhadi, the governor of the province.
