KABUL (SW) – The public sector health system is faced with a threat of complete collapse, those associated with the sector told Salam Watandar.

Shahbaz Tatar, a physician at a government hospital in Kabul, told Salam Watandar that there is a challenge of lacking medical facilities and equipment to diagnose and treat patients. He called on the government to provide more facilities to the health sector.

“The situation with the provision of health services in hospitals is currently unsatisfactory and the process of providing health services is facing a lack of diagnostic facilities and medicine,” added Shahbaz Tatar.

A number of patients in public hospitals say that they have to provide all of their patients’ needs from outside public hospitals.

“Our patient was in a very bad condition, he also has a heart problem, the government hospital is not doing anything anymore, he is just being not treated in the hospital,” said Massoud, one of the patient’s resume. “But we bring medicine and other things ourselves from outside.”

Following the recent developments that led to the fall of the republic system and the establishment of the Islamic Emirate, internal and external concerns about the deterioration of health services in the country also peaked.

The World Health Organization and a number of other international organizations have announced their readiness to provide financial support to the country’s health centers.

However, a number of physicians see the country’s health sector in need of more support and want to see it continue to provide effective health care.

“Currently, some diseases have spread due to the lack of proper health care. I see many patients coming to hospitals and clinics,” said Dr. Khalid Basharmal, another doctor at a Kabul government hospital. “If the support projects by international organizations do not continue, catastrophe will occur.”

We wanted to have the views of the officials of the Ministry of Public Health officials in this regard, but we did not succeed despite repeated calls.

It should be noted that the health sector of the country has been facing a lack of health facilities for a long time, but there is still no effective and continuous solution and plan to address these challenges.
