Zakhilwal announces launch of ‘Salvation Movement’

KABUL (SW) – A new political movement led by Omar Zakhilwal officially announced its existence here on Thursday.

The ‘Afghanistan Salvation Movement’ leaders vowed their aim was to fight injustice and corrupting.

Speaking on the occasion, Zakhilwal said the deteriorating socio-political situation in the country compelled him to form this movement, which is based on alliance of key political figures and parties. He added the alliance represent and uniform front aimed at taking Afghanistan out of the current crises.

Another leader of the movement, Jafar Mahdavi, said the top officials are engaged in corruption while the common public no more feel safe in the country. He added the government’s proposed strategy for peace is also vague and has fueled the unrest.

Former education minister, Farooq Wardak said in this connection that fighting corruption remains the main objective of the alliance. He said all ethnic groups should feel represented in the system of governance and concrete steps shall be taken towards peace. He stressed no one should be allowed to prioritize personal gains over national interests.

This comes days ahead of a key international conference in Turkey for peace in Afghanistan.
