CHAGCHARAN (SW): Armed clashes between two gangs in the central Ghor province have left a total of five people killed that included a civilian who got caught in the crossfire.
According to the officials, Mullah Mustafa Haqani and Haji Mohsen Khan, the two powerful local commanders in the province, have long born animosity rooted in the tribal issues and that they fight each other periodically.
Shah Pesand Pahlawi, acting district chief in Shahrak district, told Salam Watandar that the fighting between the two groups began at around 7 in the morning in Kamanj, Yakasang and Paikotal areas, and it still continues. He said that both sides used heavy and light weapons, which have damaged several houses as well.
He added that they are more concerned over the expansion of the fighting, and if the local officials did not do anything about it, it would inflict more civilian casualties.
Abdul Hai Khatibi, spokesman for the governor in Ghor, said that a delegation has been sent to the area, and has put an end to the fighting.
Local officials however, said that as soon as the delegation returned, the fighting between the two commanders resumed.
The spokesman emphasized that the fighting has left 5 dead and 5 more injured on both sides.
