MAIMANA (SW) – The Taliban rebels blocked roads in Kohistan district of Faryab province stopping the locals from transporting food items on the charge of supplying aid to the security forces.

According to Muhammad Nasir Khan, police chief of the district, the Taliban inspect vehicles and confiscate even a small amount of food items.

Abdullah Masumi, the district governor of Pashtunkot, also confirmed that the Taliban have imposed similar sanctions on residents of the district.

Hikmatullah, a resident of Kohistan district, expressed concerns over such sanctions, warning that if the government continued to neglect, a human disaster will occur.

Fazlullah Mohammadi, a member of the Faryab Provincial Council, said the Taliban have imposed new restrictions on residents of the districts.

The provincial office of the NDS has confirmed in a statement that roads in these districts are blocked by the Taliban and the situation of the people is alarming.

It is still unclear what plans the security officials have to open roads in these two districts.
