KABUL (SW): At least 180 thousand citizens have registered with the Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs (MoHRA) to perform Hajj this year.

The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) in Saturday’s session summoned deputy minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs and the director of Ariana Afghan Airlines (AAA) over the issues of the pilgrims.

Dayi-u-Haq Aabed, deputy minister for the MoHRA, addressing the session said all arrangements are done for the transportation of pilgrims to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He said the Ministry is trying to provide best services to the pilgrims. “This year, more than 180 thousand citizens have registered themselves [to perform Hajj] with the Ministry. Among those registered, only 30 thousand can be facilitated to perform the pilgrimage”, informed Aabed.

Mohammad Nader Omar, director of the Ariana Afghan Airlines, told the members of the WJ that the airline is facing some problems, but all necessary arrangements will be made for the transportation of the pilgrims. The director of the AAA also said that lack of funds is the biggest challenge for the only public-private airline of the country. He urged the government to provide funds for the purchase of new airplanes for the company.
