CHIGHCHIRAN (SW): Residents of Ghor province have expressed concerns over the non-government organizations (NGOs) and aid agencies limiting their activities to the Feroz Koh city only.
Sultan Mohammad, one of the residents in the province, told Salam Watandar the NGOs and development agencies are not interested to help people in other districts and villages that has irked many people. Mohammad Nabi, another Ghor resident, said dwellers of other districts are in need of more help thatn those residing in the Feroz Koh, which is the main city in the province.
Abdul Hai Khatibi, provincial governor’s spokesman, has confirmed the issue. He, however, said the aid agencies are independent in their activities, and no one can force them to choose a certain area for activities. He said the provincial administration has requested the NGOs and developing agencies to expand their activities to other districts too. “Most aid agencies and NGOs believe insecurity in other districts is the biggest challenge, in reality the same is not true”, informed Khatibi.
Meanwhile, Jamal Yaqubi, director of Afghanistan Development, Reconstruction and Cooperation Organization, has said aside from decrease in funds for NGOs, the real challenge is insecurity and instability in the districts and villages, which has forced us to confine activities to Feroz Koh.
