KABUL (SW) – President Mohammed Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday urged the Taliban to continue with the cease-fire so the peace talks can swiftly commence.
He said this while paying homage to the slain prayers leader of the Wazir Mohammed Akbar Khan mosque, Mawlawi Ayaz Niazi here.
Addressing the Taliban, President Ghani said: "Continue the ceasefire that was extended during Eid al-Fitr, which pleased the people, and separate yourself from extremist movements, so that peace talks can begin soon."
Ghani called on religious scholars to work in a united single line to ensure peace and stability in the country. He added that the government's current emphasis is on ensuring peace and avoiding violence in a fundamental way.
