Taliban kill at least 32 soldiers in Kandahar

KANDAHAR CITY (SW): Primary reports suggest that at least 32 members of the Afghan National Army (ANA) have lost their lives in an attack by the Taliban in Kandahar province.

A security source who wished not to be named in the report, told Salam Watandar that this incident took place two days ago in Akhundhai area of Ghurak district in Kandahar province. The source added that these soldiers were first taken hostage by the militants and then killed.

On the other hand, Samim Khapulwak, the spokesperson for the governor in the province, has stated that as many as 8 soldiers have been killed and 16 others have been wounded in this incident. The spokesperson added that the wounded soldiers have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

In the mean time, the Taliban have released a press note saying that they have killed as many as 50 soldiers. In the press note, the Taliban have claimed that they have occupied two checkpoints and confiscated sizeable number of weapons.
