KUNDUZ CITY (SW): In a show of defiance, armed militants associated with the Taliban have held a self-styled military parade in Kunduz province, locals said on Thursday.
Local authorities said that Taliban exhibited their force by parading with vehicles, horses and armored tanks captured from the government forces while the militants’ military anthems were being played in Kulbat district.
Sayed Mohammad Danish, provincial governor’s spokesperson told Salam Watandar that as a result clean-up operations by the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) in the province, the Taliban are forced to the outskirts of Kunduz where they held this show. “ANSF does not need to pay attention to a lame Taliban parade”, Danish said while adding that the clean-up operation would continue.
Locals however, raised concerns over the Taliban’s parade, and said that the Taliban conducted their parade for two hours with light and heavy arms.
Ghulam Rabani, a provincial council member, said that if such parades are not stopped, it can damage the ANSF’s reputation and moral.
