MAIMANA (SW) – Up to 190 members of the security forces are under the siege of the Taliban in Faryab’s Kohistan district, officials informed on Monday.
Nasir Khan, district police chief, informed members of the police force and the local militia are under the siege under dire circumstances, with fast depleting food ration and security supplies. The police chief said the Taliban are closing in killing up to three security forces on daily basis.
He added up to 40 families of the security forces are also under the siege of the Taliban in this area. The rebels have also cut food and water supplies, he added.
Naqeebullah, a policeman under the siege, said security personnel might lose lives due to hunger and thirst.
However, Gen. Nabi Jan, provincial police chief, has clarified food supplies to the security forces are provided on time regularly.
It is worth noticing the Taliban overran Kohistan some 20 days ago, and the security forces have not been able to reclaim it.
