ANSF liberate 59 more people from Taliban prison in Helmand

LASHKARGAH (SW): Afghan National Security Forces on Monday liberated 59 people from the captivity of the Taliban militants in the southern Helmand province.

Taliban had this facility in Nahrul Saraj district in Helmand province that was broken during the latest security operation. Gen. Muhammad Rasoul Zazai, 215 Maiwand Corps Spokesman told Salam Watandar that they have liberated 59 innocent people from Taliban’s prison.

According to Gen. Zazai, the Taliban kept these people in the prison for different reasons. He said following a tip the ANSF conducted a night raid and dismantled this facility. Without going into details, Gen. Zazai said a number of Taliban militants have been killed in this operation.

The 216 Maiwand Corps Spokesman said that the arrested people remained in Taliban prison for many months. According to him, the people who have been released from the Taliban prison would be identified and then allowed to go home. There are a number of former security men among the liberated men, he noted.

The Taliban militants have said nothing to media about this issue yet.

Gul Jan, one of the liberated men told Salam Watandar that the security forces dropped from helicopters for the operation. He said that the militants also took away cash and food items from them.

Sardar Muhammad Hamdard, a local civil society activist appreciated the ANSF for this successful mission. According to his observation, some 59 men have been liberated from Taliban’s custody that also included a number of Afghan National Police (ANP) men.

This is the second such operation the ANSF has conducted within a month.

Last month, a number of men were liberated from a Taliban prison in Nawzad district by the ANSF.
