MAIDAN CITY (SW) – The Taliban have abducted at least 55 civilians from Chak district of Maidan Wardark province, local authorities said on Monday.
According to the provincial governor, Muzafaruddin Yameen, the incident took place in the Chak district. He added those abducted by the Taliban are civilians with no ties with the government. The governor said the insurgents wish to exchange these civilians with their captive militants under the government custody.
Governor of Chak, Fazalulhaq Haqmal, said among those people abducted by the Taliban included young men and boys with no ties to the government. He added the local administration is striving to ensure their safe release through mediation by the elders.
The Taliban have not commented on this matter.
