LASHKARGAH(SW): Security officials informed of releasing 60 security personnel detainees who were captured by Taliban in Helmand weeks ago.
Ahmad Shakil Tasal, an official at the Maiwand Corps in Helamand, told Salamwatandar that the security personnel were released on Thursday night following a joint operation carried out by Special Forces and Afghan National Army over Nawzad district.
He said that the operation was conducted once the security forces learnt that the captives were still alive.
A number of residents in Nawzad district however said that the number of detainees was more than what was claimed and added that the Taliban following attacks over security checkpoints captured the personnel and shifted them to Bughran district in Helmand.
Taliban have yet to comment on the incident.
Taliban captured nearly 65 security personnel nearly three weeks ago out of whom the fate of 5 security personnel is not known yet.
