JALALABAD (SW): Noor Zaman served in the ranks of the Taliban for years before joining the pro-Daesh rebels and ultimately shunning the violence.
The 35-year old was among the group of rebels who surrendered their weapons to the local administration in eastern Nangarhar province.
Zaman and his ten comrades had automatic rifles and rocket launchers on their shoulders as they made a cue to join the peace process and begun a new life.
The group remained active both against the Taliban and the government in Nangarhar’s Achin, Nazian and other districts for months. He revealed that training and resources to the militants are provided from Pakistan.
He went on to say that the pro-Daesh commanders receive a monthly salary of around 15, 000 Pakistani Rupees while the foot soldiers receive around 6000 PKR.
As per his views, the inhuman acts of pro-Daesh militants compelled him to quit.

He claimed all militants associated with this group are Pakistani soldiers who have committed inhuman and barbaric acts in Afghanistan. “I first joined the Taliban and then Daesh for the sake of God and with my own will, but when I saw them from close, I realized they were indulging in un-Islamic acts”, he said.
About his comrades, the former pro-Daesh commander said up to 30 of his fellows died in the clashes. And, he himself survived on a number of occasions.
Last year, Nangarhar’s eastern districts of the Shinwari tribe saw a sudden surge of pro-Daesh rebels that led to deaths and displacements. The areas remain under the influence of the militants.
