KABUL (SW) – The Taliban announced their so-called annual spring offensives on Friday dubbed as ‘Al-Fath’.
In a statement issued by the Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahed, the insurgents have vowed to establish ‘an Islamic system and cleans Afghanistan from American occupation’. They also vowed to ensure protection of civilians.
Earlier this month, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani approved the annual security plan 'Khalid'. ‘’The Khalid Security Plan is aimed at improving the security situation of cities and highways, to identify areas under threat, security measures for the electoral process and better care and deployment of the forces”, read the statement issued by the presidency.
This comes amid ongoing talks for peace between the U.S. and the Taliban in Doha, Qatar. The next round of these talks is set to take place in the Qatari capital later this month.
