KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday dubbed the delay in announcement results for the parliamentary polls as catastrophic.

He expressed these remarks at the oath taking of newly declared winner of WJ polls from Kabul and Paktia provinces at a ceremony at Arg (presidency). The President said the people went to vote zealously regardless of all the threats and impediments.

He said the nearly seven months delay in announcement results for the parliamentary polls is catastrophic in any democratic system. President Ghani underlined the importance of cooperation and coordination among all three pillars of the state.

He urged the WJ members to work hard on electoral laws, and ensure such situation never repeats. He urged the electoral commissions to ensure WJ polls for Ghazni province take place along with the presidential elections later this year.

The Independent Election Commission announced final results for Paktia province two days after the inauguration of the 17th batch of WJ while as final results for Kabul were announced 18 days after it.
