GARDEZ (SW): Residents of Paktia province on Wednesday pronounced the killing of former president Dr. Najibullah as an international conspiracy, and called upon United Nations to seriously pursue this case.
Local elders, members of the civil society, men and women in Gardez marked the 21 death anniversary of the former president. They said Dr. Najibullah got killed over the Durand Line issue. Speakers on the occasion shed light on the personality and foreign policies of the late president.
They urged upon the UN to pursue the case of his murder that had an international perspective to it.
Dr. Samiullah Ahmadzai, a local elder, urged upon the government to name the Paktia University, Aryana Square in Kabul and the main square in Gardez city after Dr. Najibullah.
Observers believe Dr. Najibullah and his brother Shahpur Ahmadzai were shot dead in Pakistan before their bodies were brought to be hanged at the Aryana square in Kabul on the day the Taliban entered the city 21 years ago. He was born in Gardez’s Mehlan village, and was later laid to rest here.
