CHARIKAR (SW): The Directorate for Education in Parwan province has not spent a single penny form its annual development budget this year.

Nizamuddin Rehimi, interim director for the Directorate of Education, informed Salam Watandar that not a single out of the 15 development projects worth AFN 188 million have been executed. He said the year is close to an end, but they are not informed about the status of procurement for these projects.

The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) had also criticized the Ministry of Education for insufficient utilization of its annual development budget.

Zakia Sangin, member of the house’s Committee on Budget, has blamed administrative corruption and weak management as reasons behind the state of affairs at the Directorate of Education in Parwan.

Haseeba Iffat, member of the Parwan provincial council, has echoed these allegations. She said they cannot vigorously inquire from the different directorates and departments there due to rampant corruption there, which is resulting in delays in execution of projects.

According to the information provided by the Directorate for Education in Parwan, there are currently 524 different schools in the province, but 40 of these schools lack a proper structure forcing students to study in open air.
