GHAZNI CITY (SW) – Two mortar shells dropped in closed proximity to a high level security meeting in Ghazni province attended by the minister of defense among other officials.
Mohammad Arif Noori, spokesman for the provincial governor, informed Salam Watandar two soldiers got wounded in this attack. He blamed the Taliban for firing the mortars.
Addressing the meeting, Tariq Shah Bahrami, minister of defense, said the Taliban are aiming to destabilize Ghazni, but the province has special importance for the government and its security would not be compromised upon.
Two more mortars landed close to the Ghazni municipality and the directorate of education.
Shafiqullah Qarizada, spokesman for the municipality, and Inayatullah Irfan, spokesman for the directorate of educaiotn, have confirmed the incidents. They informed five public sector employees got hurt due to the mortar shells.
The top security officials including the defense minister, officials from the Ministry of Interior and the National Directorate of Security are visiting Ghazni to evaluate security situation.
