SHEBERGHAN (SW): A commander of the local anti-militant uprising force in Jawzjan province has vowed to fight for the right of Rohingya Muslims in Mynamar’s Rakhine state.
In conversation with Salam Watandar, Saheb Khan, a commander of the local militia, said a number of his fighters are willing to travel to Rakhine and fight the Budhist extremists blamed for killing, rapping and forcing the Rohingya Muslims to flee. He said these fighters reached a consensus in this regard at a meeting in Faizabad district.
Meanwhile, a number of locals have urged the militia fighters to invest their energy in ensuring peace and stability in their province. In a facebook post, Abdul Satar Khawasi, a member of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) from Parwan province, has urged Muslims around the world to unite for the rights of the persecuted Rohingya community in Mynamar.
The unfolding situation in Myanmar has stirred an intense reaction among the social media users. Many Afghans have vowed to travel to Myanmar to defend the rights of the Rohingya Myslims. Many others, however, have called for brining own house in order first.
Rohingya, described by the UN as the world’s most persecuted people, have faced heightened fears of attack since dozens were killed in communal violence in 2012. The UN documented mass gang rapes, killings — including infants and young children — brutal beatings and disappearances committed by security personnel. In a report, UN investigators said the human rights violations constituted crimes against humanity.
Fresh violence erupted in Myanmar's Rakhine state nearly two weeks ago when security forces launched an operation against the Rohingya community. On Saturday, the UN said at least 290,000 Rohingya have sought refuge in Bangladesh
