Kabulites irked by rampant land grabbing

KABUL (SW): Local representatives of the Ahmad Shah Baba Maina in Kabul registered strong protest against land grabbers while blaming the government for turning a blind eye on rampant land grabbing in the capital city.

There has been series of reports about land grabbing in the city. In a latest such report, these representatives of the 12th Police District (PD) Ahmad Shah Baba Maina, blamed politicians and warlords for encroaching upon public and private land. Members of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) held a meeting with the residents of PD 12 in this regard. The residents urged the parliamentarians to play their role in resolving this issue.

Haji Ibrahim, a representative from the area, said Haji Musa; brother of Mullah Tara Khel, member of WJ, has plans to build a fuel station on a grabbed land. Haji Khalil, another resident, said on the occasion that land grabbers have encroached upon a patch of land dedicated for graveyard.

Authorities at the Kabul Municipality (KM) have acknowledged the issue. Abdul Wahid, chief of staff at the KM, told the gathering that many influential individuals are involved in land grabbing in various parts of the city.

Qais Hassan, head of public relations committee at the WJ, has said complaints have been registered, and soon action would be taken to reclaim the public and private property from land grabbers.
