KABUL (SW): Chief of the Hezb-e-Islami party Gulbuddin Hekmatyar said on Thursday he has no concerns nor does he oppose a new political alliance formed by Afghan politicians in a meeting in Ankara, Turkey last month.
In a press conference here on Thursday, Hekmatyar rejected reports about he forming another alliance to counter alliance formed by first Vice President Abdul Rasheed Dostum, Atta Mohammad Noor, governor of Balkh province and chief executive of the Jamiat-e-Islami party, and Mohammad Mohaqeq, deputy to Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah of the National Unity Government (NUG) and leader of the Wahdat-e-Islami party.
The former Mujahedeen leader said it is high time for all political parties to unite and confer on major challenges faced by the country to find solutions and end the armed conflict. “We do not believe in forming alliances against others, or leadership councils that are superior to the government”, he said.
Hekmatyar went on to say he would support the alliance by Dostum, Noor and Mohaqeq if it had a positive agenda. He stressed such alliances should not be aimed against each other. He urged the government to investigate reports about distribution of arms in northern parts of the country.
