AGO completes initial probe into electoral rigging

03/03/2019

KABUL (SW) – The Attorney General Office announced here on Sunday initial investigations into the case of electoral commissioners are completed.

Jamshed Rasuli, spokesman for the AGO, told a presser in this connection that investigations are underway. Last month, the AGO barred the former electoral commissioners from travelling abroad over charges of corruption and rigging. Without sharing the details, Rasuli said initial phase of the investigations has been completed.

He said the AGO team would share the findings of the comprehensive details with the media soon.

Following reports about rampant rigging in the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) polls, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, sacked the electoral commissioners. This was followed by the AGO barring the commissioners from travelling abroad and launching investigations into their alleged involvement in the rigging and mismanagement of the polls.
