KABUL (SW) – Sediq Sediqqi, spokesman for the president, has said any strategy with ceasefire at the center of it would be acceptable to the government and people of Afghanistan.
He said this in a tweet here on Friday. “Peace remains basic priority for the government, people and international partners of Afghanistan. To reach sustainable and dignified peace that remains demand of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the people, implementation of ceasefire is the only way and any strategy with ceasefire at the center of it would be acceptable to the government and people of Afghanistan”, he tweeted.
Hours earlier, the Taliban’s Qatar office spokesman, Suhail Shaheen said in a series of tweet that Zalmay Khkalilzad, U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, has met the deputy head of the insurgents, Mullah Baradar in Doha, Qatar. He claimed the talks centered around the proposed signing of the draft peace agreement.
Earlier this week, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, foreign minister of Pakistan, claimed the Taliban are ready for ‘reduction in violence’. However, Salam Rahimi, state minister for peace in Afghanistan, clarified the Taliban need to ceasefire for the intra-Afghan talks.
