KABUL (SW) – The High Peace Council has expressed hope the U.S. officials would exert pressure on visiting premier of Pakistan for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan began his three-day official trip of the U.S. on Saturday. Khan is set to meet the U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday. No high ranking official welcomed the PM of Pakistan upon his arrival.
Assadullah Zaheri, spokesman for the HPC, told Salam Watandar that Kabul hopes Washington would push Imran Khan to take genuine and practical steps towards peace in Afghanistan. He added Pakistan should be pushed to abandon its ‘dual policy’ that has posed risks to the stability of the whole region.
Analyst Intezar Khadem said in this regard that the Trump Administration wants to end the war in Afghanistan. He added the U.S. President would push Prime Minister of Pakistan for efforts against terrorism. Khadem added Prime Minister Khan would request the U.S. in return to ask the World Bank for more loans to Pakistan as well as political support in connection with the Kashmir dispute with India.
