KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Sunday dismissed a number of high ranking public health officials over negligence of duty but analysts believe he should focus on more serious issues, the raging conflict for instance.
The Taliban militants have been knocking at the doors of provincial capitals in Kunduz, Helmand, Zabul, Farah and other provinces for quite a while now. During all this situation, Ghani’s surprise visit to the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and major public hospital to check on the service delivery to the citizen has not played very well according to some analysts. The President also instructed for an audit of the ministry and to employ competent people on the vacant positions.
Commenting on the President’s move, a number of political commentators told Salam Watandar that the President should better prioritize the urgencies rather than paying 'symbolic' visits to various places.
Ferdaws Kawosh, an analyst on political affairs, told Salam Watandar that with the concerns arising due to poor security across county, the President should prioritize his moves. He mentioned that the President should hand over some of his duties to his deputies and the chief executive officer.
Jawad Salihi, another analyst on political affairs, also believed that the security in the country should be Ghani’s top priority. Salihi warned that major cities of the country may fall to the enemies if this situation persisted.
