Agreement with the EU over migrants on the cards

27/01/2016

KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations (MoRR) has said that a comprehensive agreement for resolving the issues surrounding Afghan refugees in Europe would be signed with the European Union.

Hafiz Ahmad Miyakhil, spokesman for the Ministry told Salam Watandar that a number of matters were discussed in a meeting with a EU delegation. He noted that an all-inclusive agreement about the refugees would be signed soon.

There have been reports about some European countries not considering asylum request filed by refugees coming from Afghanistan. These reports sparked concerns among Afghans facing threats for their life in the country and seeking refuge in the European countries.According to Meyakhail, the up-coming meeting between the Afghan and EU officials in October was also discussed in the meeting.

Insecurity has forced thousands of Afghans to seek asylum in the EU at a time when an unprecedented number of refugees from Iraq and Syria too are knocking at the doors of the EU.
