70 per cent of schools in Ghor lack proper buildings

GHOR (SW) – Locals in Ghor province claim up to 70 per cent schools in the province have no proper buildings leaving thousands of children to study under open sky.

Abdul Hai Khatibi, spokesman for the provincial governor, told Salam Watandar the education sector is also struggling in the face of grim security challenges, lack of trained teachers and harsh winter. He added efforts are underway to utilize the half-build schools, but there has not been progress in this this regard.

The local civil society is equally concerned about the prevailing state of affairs in regard to education in the province. They said girls in particular are affected by it, and the girls’ schools are only operating in the provincial capital alone here.

Ahmad Sabir Noori, director education in the province, said the schools in the province are also facing shortage of books. He said out of 847 schools, only 127 have buildings.
