Young midwife gang-raped in Samangan

SAMANGAN (SW) – In a troubling incident, a young midwife has been gang raped by a group of eight men in Samangan province.

The incident took place in the remote Roy Doab district where eight men stormed a health center, and raped the girl in the presence of her father, sister-in-law and a child.

Gulalay Noor Safi, director women affairs, has confirmed the incident. She said the men were armed.

The directorate of public health has launched investigations into the incident. A member of the investigation committee told Salam Watandar the security officials have been informed about it.

According to Mohammad Hashim Bayan, spokesman for the police headquarters, at least nine suspects have been taken into custody and referred to the attorney’s office.

Niaz Mohammad Rasekh, head of the appellate court, said four of the suspects are below the age of 18.

The victim is native of the Roy Doab district away from the provincial capital, Ebak. According to officials, the victim has so far not consulted the appellate court in the provincial capital.
