PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW): A minor bride in Baghlan province has been made victim of horrific violence on daily basis.
The bride named Wagma was married off to a 17 years old boy, who is said to have ruthlessly kept beating her for not doing the house chores properly. Khadija Yaqeen, the head for women affairs department in the province, stated that the in-laws of Wagma have brutally beaten her, burnt parts her body with fuming iron rods, cut her hairs and damaged her face.
The head for women affairs department in province noticed that Wagma’s in-laws have tortured her through the whole year since her marriage. According to the officials, to get rid of this enduring pain, Wagma escaped from her husband’s home of the pretext of performing morning prayers, and took refuge in a nearby police station.
This 14-year old bride told Salam Watandar that she would prefer to die over returning to her in-law’s house. Wagma went on to say that she has not spent a single night without bearing the violence directed at her. She added that her in-laws had also locked her in a toilet on many occasion.
In the meantime, Noor Habib Gulbahari, the police chief in the province, noted that Wamga’s husband and brother-in-law are under the custody of police and inquiry has been launched in this regard.
