‘Would not accept pressure in peace process’

03/04/2019

KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said Afghanistan would not accept pressure to act illegally in connection with the peace process

According to the Arg (presidency), the Afghan President told a gathering of civil society members the peace talks with the Taliban are without any pre-conditions, but peace has conditions and the Afghan nation will set the limits for the talks. “We will not surrender to anyone and as long as the peace talks do not reach a result, we will defend our soil with dignity,” Ghani said.

Ghani met Zalmay Khalilzad, U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, and a number of senior political figures at the presidency on Wednesday. It is likely that these talks would continue for next few days to form an inclusive delegation for peace talks with the Taliban.
