Analysts skeptical about BRICS declaration

KABUL (SW): Analysts are skeptical about the joint declaration BRICS nations – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – have issued in which they expressed worry about the terrorist groups in the region.

"We, in this regard, express concern about the security situation in the region and violence caused by the Taliban, 'Islamic State'(IS)…, al Qaeda and its affiliates, including the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, the Haqqani Network, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, TTP and Hizb ut-Tahrir," the BRICS leaders said in a joint declaration.

Nadir Shah Sawa, an analyst on political affairs, said the BRICS Summit was not aimed at striving for peace in Afghanistan, but for the member countries own interests. He underlined that it is part of the global political maneuvers, and Afghanistan is not its priority.

Intezar Khadim, an expert on international affairs, argued that since BRICS declaration did not charge any country for supporting terrorists, it can do no harm to Pakistan. He added the notion of peace in Afghanistan has been used in the declaration just to put pressure on the U.S. and Europe.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), has hailed the declaration. Shakib Mustaghni, spokesman for the MoFA, has said this declaration has announced support for an Afghan-led peace process in the country. He added the declaration has hailed the Afghan security forces, and has denounced the armed militants. Mustaghni underlined the Afghan forces are fighting extremism on behalf of the whole world, and need support of the world.
