MONITORING (SW) – Ambassador Kay Bailey Hutchison, the U.S. Ambassador to NATO, has said Washington would never let Afghanistan become a safe haven for terrorists again.
In a statement, she said the United States and NATO stand with the Afghan people and security forces to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan. "We are united in our resolve to never again let become a safe haven for terrorists threatening our homelands", she said.
Separately, the Afghan foreign ministry has urged the Taliban to ceasefire amid the coronavirus pandemic. In a statement, it said in order to provide humanitarian and health services to vulnerable and virus-infected citizens across the country, the government urges the Taliban to stop violence and make it possible for primary and health services and assistance be provided to the people.
The foreign ministry also appealed to the Islamic countries and the international community to redouble their efforts to ensure a ceasefire in Afghanistan, to prevent war and bloodshed, and to ensure lasting peace.
