KABUL (SW): Spate of terrorist attacks in Kabul and Helmand invited the wrath of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Saturday directed towards the security and intelligence officials.
Members of the WJ said the chief of the National Directorate of Security (NDS), Mohammad Masoum Stanikzai, has time and again claimed to have intelligence about the terrorists’ whereabouts. They asked why is he not taking actions against the terrorists?
Shakiba Hashimi, a female member of the house, said that during a number of sessions at the house’s internal security affairs committee, the NDS chief had asked for the parliamentarians support against militants claiming to know their whereabouts. “I call upon the intelligence institutions to stop these terrorist and suicide attacks for God’s sake”, Nazika Zaki, another member of the house, said.
In the meantime, some members of the house charged the security and intelligence sector bosses of negligence of duty. Nafis Azimi, a member of the house, said on the occasion those found guilty of negligence of duty should be summoned and held accountable by the house. Another MP, Arif Rehmani, said NDS chief Mohammad Masoum Stanikzai, and Minister for Interior, Wais Ahmad Barmak, should be summoned over these attacks.
A suicide car bombing in the capital Kabul on the day of ‘Nawruz’ killed up to 29 people on Wednesday which was followed by a car bombing in Helmand on Friday killing 15 people.
