KABUL (SW) – Persistent lack of quorum in the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Saturday prompted the administrative board of the house to reveal attendance record of the members.
In today’s session, the administrative board of the house shared the attendance of the members during the past three months. It indicated majority of the members failed to complete a minimum of 40 per cent of the quorum in this period.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the house, and a number of members criticized the list as ‘faulty’, and called for more work to make it fine. Those criticizing this list stressed the administrative board of the house should have taken this matter seriously from the beginning, and should now held the guilty MPs accountable.
Secretary of the house, Mirdad Najrabi, defended the list, and stressed it has been prepared in collaboration and approval of the members. In line with the new regulations, any member found guilty of not completing the quorum would be deprived of the perks and privileges.
