KABUL (SW) – The women affairs commission of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Monday demanded only the biometric verified votes in the parliamentary polls should be approved.
In a resolution adopted during today’s session, the commission asserted this is based on findings of the election observing organizations and the documented complaints regarding the October elections. Based on this resolution, only the biometric verified votes should be taken into consideration for the WJ polls.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the house, put the resolution for voting, and a majority of the MPs voted in its favor.
In the meantime, Abdul Azizi Ibrahimi, deputy spokesman for the Independent Election Commission, told Salam Watandar the votes cast in line with the voter registration forms, including those biometric verified and those not verified, remain legitimate for the electoral commission. Ibrahimi said the IEC remains an independent entity, and no other institution can interfere in its affairs.
This comes as the IEC has announced WJ election results for most of the provinces, except the capital Kabul.
