What is delaying inking of U.S. – Taliban deal?
KABUL (SW) – A number of political figures say the Taliban are ready to sign a peace agreement, but the U.S. and some other forces want to delay the signing of the peace accord.
Political analyst Faiz Mohammad Zeland said the Taliban have been ready to sign a peace agreement, but some figures in Kabul who see their interests in the ongoing war are trying to delay the peace agreement.
Qalamuddin, a former Taliban member, said that whenever the Taliban prepare to sign a peace agreement, the U.S present new conditions so the signing of the peace agreement delays.
Sohail Shaheen, a spokesman for the Taliban's political bureau in Qatar, also told the media yesterday that the reason for the delay in the peace process was the new demands by the Americans.
Zalmay Khalilzad, U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, said during a meeting with Afghan government officials that the peace process has not progressed, Najia Anwari, a spokesman for the State Ministry for Peace, told Salam Watandar.
Earlier, the Afghan government repeatedly stated that the delegation is ready for inter-Afghan talks, and that the names of the delegation will be announced as the talks begin.
