KABUL (SW) – A number of Wolesi Jirga (lower house) members on Monday hailed the return of vice president, Gen. Abdul Rasheed Dosstum, to Afghanistan.
The members expressed hope the return of Gen. Dostum would help bring peace and strengthen national unity. Humera Ayubi and Ghulam Farooq Majroh, two such members of the house, said during debate on the matter that the return of the vice president would help lead the country towards peace and stability.
Speaker of the house, Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, expressed hope the VP would take active part in political, social and security matter to take the country out of crisis.
Dostum left for Turkey over a year ago after allegations of torture and sexual abuse were levelled against him by his former party-mate, Ahmad Ischi. He returned to Kabul on Sunday after widespread protests by his supporters in a number of northern provinces for his return.
