KABUL (SW): A number of Wolesi Jirga (lower house) members on Monday grilled ministers for not properly utilizing the development budget.
The members called for the impeachment of ministers who fail to properly utilize the development budget. Abdul Qadir Zazai, a member of the house suggested that the house should monitor the situation of budget spending, and move to impeach those ministers who fail in this regard. He suggested that before the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani takes notice of these incompetent ministers, the WJ should take notice and impeach the ministers found guilty.
The President had warned cabinet members to properly plan their budgets and properly utilize money for expenditures and development otherwise they would be held accountable.
Abdul Zahir Qadeer, deputy speaker of the house who was supervising the proceedings, agreed with the notion. He added that there is a huge demand for development projects across the country, and the officials must ensure they spend the available funds for it.
This has been a recurring phenomenon when various ministries fail to properly utilize their expenditure budgets.
