KABUL (SW): Members of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Monday stressed upon timely execution of the parliamentary and district council elections.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the house, said during the session that the house demand timely execution of fair and free elections. He said the parliamentarians do not want repetition of the crisis that engulfed the nation during the presidential elections.
Ibrahimi noted that the head of electoral commissions should be summoned to the house to address the concerns of parliamentarians in regard to the appointment of election commissioners and other matters.
Kamal Nasir Osoli, a member of the house, said on the occasion that the government should take immediate steps towards ensuring timely elections next year.
In June this year, Chief of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) Najibullah Ahmadzai announced that the long-awaited elections for the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) and Wilayati Shura (district council) would be held on July 02, 2018. The budget, security and other matters related to the elections remain a concern.
