MONITORING (SW) – The Russian capital Moscow on Tuesday hosted second round of talks between the Taliban and Afghan politicians.
Atta Mohammad Noor, chief executive of the Jamiat-e-Islami party, suggested to the Taliban to get ready for next round of talks in Doha, engage in direct talks with the Afghan government and not end this conference in Moscow without a conclusion. He hoped the conference in Moscow delivers a ceasefire for Afghanistan.
Mohammad Haneef Atmar, Mohammad Kareem Khalili, Hamid Gillani and Mohammad Mohaqiqi endorsed the suggestions by Noor.
Speaking on the occasion, Karim Khalili, chairman for the High Peace Council, said Afghans want an end to war in the country. He said lasting peace in the country can only be ensured through justice.
Presidential candidate Atmar said on his term that impedements in the way for peace can be removed through dialogue. He said Afghans hope for peace and an end to the bloodshed.
His proposed deputy Mohaqiq said the two sides should help understand each other’s point of view.
A 14-member Taliban delegation led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar took part in the conference.
A previous round of these talks failed to yield any results as the Afghan government was not represented.
