11/12/2015

HERAT CITY(SW): Abdulbari Jahani, Minister of Information and Culture, who visited western Herat province, said in a meeting that the ministry compared to other ministries in the country has had insufficient budget which can’t help them to prevent erosion of the artefacts in the province.

The minister said that they annual budget of the ministry is afn 16 to 17 million which is not even enough for holding training seminars at the ministry.

To prevent further erosion of the artefacts in the province, the minister said that the only thing that the ministry can do about such issue is to provide a report on the miserable state of the artefacts and propose it to the ministers’ council.

According to the local officials, currently there exists 800 artefacts in the province which are at the great risk of being destroyed.

Most of the artefacts are left from Tamerlane dynasty in Herat. They have existed in the province for 4 centuries but currently most of them have been in danger of erosion for various reasons.
